June's Kitchen - Restaurant & Cafe Nonya

Across the Causeway
Visited September 2012

Tugged in a quiet neighbourhood, among the rows of shops, we finally spotted June's Kitchen. As we arrived 30 minutes earlier than its operating time, we roamed around and spotted a coffeeshop likestyle where many people were having dry noodles (like SG's mee pok). Couldn't resist the temptation, we ordered a large bowl extra. It was sedap! Closed to my No. 1 favourite Ang Mo Kio Ave 10's "mee pok"/ "mee gia" that I had when I was young. So good (and hungry) that I've forgotten to take a pic of the storefront... I will return there soon so that I can do a write-up on it.

Now back to June's Kitchen. Yes, after sharing a bowl of noodles that we couldn't resist trying, we went back to June's Kitchen for lunch. Despite the exterior building looking kinda rundown, we were pleasantly surprised upon stepping in. We were welcomed by the warm lightings, simple yet nice decor, and friendly staff.

After flipping through the menu, we decided that our stomach can only take in 3 dishes plus 1 dessert. The followings were our pick:

Nyonya steamed fish - Rm 22
Fish was fresh and sauce was abit like sweet chilli style.
The only complain I have was the portion was a little small for the price. (good for 1-2 pax but not more)

Ayam buah keluak - Rm 15
Cooked in sweet style, we were not so impressed with this dish.
It was do-able but not excellent for us.

Lady's finger sambal - Rm 7
Though a very simple dish but the well-cooked lady's finger topped with the sambal (you can see those chopped garlic) was good! Something that I would order again!

Durian Chendol - Rm 5.80
Lastly, our dessert - durian chendol!
No matter how full we are, there is always this little room reserved for dessert :P
Yes, that huge chunk on top is durian paste! This was satisfying though I thought they could improve on those little greeny stuff as it was pretty tasteless compared to those in other chendols I've had before.

 Durian chendol - done!

In all, the bill came up to Rm 58.74 (around S$23.98). This include 2 plain rice at Rm 1.30/pax,  2 plain water at 50 sen/cup, and also a 10% service charge.

Besides the above, there are many other dishes on the menu, here's a glimpse of the menu:
